UK fuel prices rise to new record levels

UK petrol and diesel prices continued to rise over the weekend, hitting record levels again.

And the "Bloomberg" news agency quoted the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) as saying that the average price of gasoline rose to 177.88 pence (2.23 dollars) per liter on Sunday, which raised the cost of filling the fuel tank of a family car to 98 pounds.

Diesel prices rose to 185.01 pence per liter.

"With oil above $120 a barrel and sterling at $1.20, the worst is yet to come," RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said in a statement.

He also said, "We expect to see the average price of gasoline exceed the level of 180 pence this week, with the price of diesel rising further to approach 190 pence."

Rising vehicle fuel prices have exacerbated the cost-of-living crisis for British families, who are struggling with high energy bills and the highest inflation in four decades.

Diesel prices also rose in the United Kingdom due to its decision to ban shipments of fuel from Russia.
