Sixty-one is the best time for parents and children to watch movies, and it is also an important time for the release of animated movies in a year.

On June 1 this year, 4 new films were released, mostly children-oriented animated films, superimposed on "Doraemon: Nobita's Little Cosmic War 2021" released last week, the animated films successfully created a good summer season. 's start.

Animated films are an important part of the film market, but since the release of "The Devil of Nezha" released in the summer of 2019, there have been very few breakers in the domestic animation market, even the highly acclaimed "White Snake 2: Green Snake" in the industry. Robbery", the box office revenue also stopped at 580 million yuan.

So, is the emergence of "Nezha's Devil Child Comes into the World" accidental or inevitable?

When will the next blockbuster animation come?

"Doraemon" is coming

As of 19:00 on June 1, the box office revenue of the movie was 50.62 million yuan. Although it was not as good as the 144 million yuan in the same period last year, it was not easy to come by against the background of the national theater operating rate of 70.2%.

A data platform analyst told the "Securities Daily" reporter that this year's "June 1st" Children's Day is Wednesday, because it is not a holiday, so the potential has not yet fully erupted. It is expected that the viewing craze of animated films will continue into the next two weeks.

Looking back on the June 1st file in previous years, the "Doraemon" series of movies has become one of the box office pillars of this season.

Since the release of "Doraemon: Nobita's Antarctic Ice-cold Adventure" in June 1st in 2017, the "Doraemon" series of movies has come as promised every year since then.

This year is no exception. Beacon data shows that the TOP3 box office revenue of 61 this year is "Doraemon: Nobita's Little Cosmic War 2021" (15.37 million yuan), "Bad League" (14.85 million yuan), "Under the Sea" Column: Cave Adventure (6.34 million yuan).

"At present, the domestic film market has shown its recognition of animated films, and some animated films aimed at the adult market have also begun to be favored. Therefore, the emergence of domestically popular animations is not accidental." The above-mentioned data platform analyst said, but the domestic animation creation team also Industrial production line processes and IP universes such as Pixar and Disney animation have not been formed, which leads to unstable content quality.

There is still room for the domestic animation market

In fact, in a horizontal comparison, the domestic animation film market still has a lot of room for improvement.

The Western Securities Research Report pointed out that in the past ten years, the average market share of animation films in China, the United States and Japan was 10%, 16% and 27% respectively.

The research report shows that the domestic animation film market is relatively undersupplied.

At present, there are few talents specializing in animation films in China, high-quality teams are scarce, and the number of domestic animations remains at 30 to 40 per year.

Also due to less supply, domestic animation films face weaker competition than developed markets.

In an interview with a reporter from Securities Daily, a founder of an animation company said that the cost of animated films is quite different from that of live-action films. Successful series are highly reproducible, but the cost of innovation is high and the cycle is longer. The cost of a movie can easily reach hundreds of millions of yuan, and the creation cycle takes at least 2 years to start, which has discouraged a group of entrepreneurial teams.

"At present, most of the well-known animation creation teams in China are attached to listed companies, such as Caitiaowu under Guangguang Media; or the second venture of successful people, such as Chasing Light Animation, which was founded by Wang Wei, the founder and former CEO of Tudou.com. The above-mentioned founder further stated that even a mature foreign animation team has a very difficult start. For example, before Pixar was initially acquired by Disney, it relied on Jobs' personal "blood transfusion".

Therefore, the next blockbuster is bound to come from a team with stable cash flow.

In addition, in the domestic animation industry chain, the early IP creation is not saturated enough.

The "2021 Short Report on China's Animation Production Industry" proposes that China's animation production industry needs to increase investment in early creation in order to improve the level of content creation.

Statistics show that Chinese animation companies invest 70% to 80% of their resources in mid-term production, while script creation and other links only account for 5% to 10%.

Fortunately, in recent years, my country's animation industry is ushering in a market boom.

According to Tianyancha data, there are over 1.58 million animation-related companies in my country, of which more than 580,000 related companies will be added in 2021, a record high.

Since the beginning of this year, my country has added more than 460,000 animation-related enterprises.
