The UAE is the fifth largest exporter of tea in the world

The UAE came among the top 5 tea-exporting countries in the world, with total exports of about 1.2 billion dirhams in 2020, according to the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics.

The center's data indicated that the most important 5 countries in the world in tea exports are: China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, India and the UAE, noting that the total number of countries to which the UAE exported tea reached 154 countries last year 2021.

The Center for Competitiveness and Statistics stated that the volume of tea trade in the UAE amounted to about 1.859 billion dirhams, including exports worth 968 million dirhams, and re-exports worth 128 million dirhams, and imports by about 763 million dirhams.

"Competitiveness and Statistics" reported that the UAE's trade volume of tea in the first quarter of this year amounted to 586 million dirhams, including exports worth 310 million dirhams, re-exports worth 51 million dirhams and imports about 224 million dirhams.

She noted that the annual spending of families in the UAE on tea amounted to about 290 million dirhams, according to 2019 data, based on a household income and expenditure survey.

The data stated that the number of cafes and tea serving places in the UAE reached 14,567 until May 19.
