It was belatedly known that the National Tax Service collected 50 billion won in tax on CEO Kwon Do-hyeong last year while the collapse of the domestic cryptocurrency Luna caused a big wave.

The results of the investigation by the National Tax Service were that the money earned by establishing a corporation in a tax haven was stolen.

However, it is known that the National Tax Service did not accuse Kwon while imposing tens of billions of won in taxes.

In June, the National Tax Service discovered traces of a suspicious transaction in an overseas corporation created by Terraform Labs CEO Kwon Do-hyeong and started a tax investigation.

CEO Kwon first established a corporation in Singapore and then made another 100% subsidiary of the corporation in the Virgin Islands, a tax haven.

The National Tax Service explained that CEO Kwon frequently transferred the profits he earned from trading coins from Singapore to the Virgin Islands.

The National Tax Service, which identified the size of the transaction, imposed an income tax and corporate tax of 50 billion won on CEO Kwon and others.

It is known that CEO Kwon emphasized the uniqueness of overseas corporations, but the National Tax Service judged it to be a domestic corporation and imposed a tax.

[Lim Dong-won / Research Fellow, Korea Economic Research Institute: There is such a thing as an actual management place.

Whether or not business instructions have been actually issued through the board of directors is an important factor.

That place (overseas corporation) was considered a permanent establishment and tax was levied.]

CEO Kwon is also accused of evading gift tax, such as buying an apartment by gifting coins to his family.

I tried to contact Kwon's side to confirm the facts, but I couldn't.

However, it is known that the National Tax Service did not report Kwon to the prosecution.

According to the Tax Criminal Punishment Act, if the amount of portal tax exceeds 500 million won, an accusation is made immediately.

[Kyung-Yul Kim/Accountant: If the National Tax Service did not file a accusation for such obvious tax evasion, there is a possibility of negligence…

.]

The National Tax Service declined to comment on whether or not to make an accusation, saying that the investigation is ongoing.
