According to the agency, citing sources, "Beijing is currently negotiating with Moscow on additional supplies."
It is assumed that the supplied oil will be used to replenish China's strategic reserves.
"Negotiations are being conducted at the government level with little direct involvement of oil companies," the agency was told.
In early May, the Financial Times reported that China's private refineries were "purchasing Russian oil in secret" to avoid US sanctions.
