The election takes place in a country in the midst of economic collapse, between electricity shortages, currency devaluation, inflation and the exile of the working population to seek work abroad.

With our special correspondent in Akoura,

Akoura, on the heights of Mount Lebanon.

A breathtaking landscape, at more than 1600 m altitude.

In the parish hall, Ghassan Germanos gathered a few dozen villagers for his last campaign meeting.

Former dentist converted into agriculture and recently into politics, Ghassan Germanos is very active on social networks.

His list We are the change claims to be part of the Thawra, literally the "Revolution", the

protest movement that broke out in 2019

.

In his constituency of Mount Lebanon, Ghassan Germanos campaigned with few resources against the powerful traditional parties.

“

, ”he explains to RFI.

“

I have never been invited on a TV set.

Our entire campaign was done on social networks,

”says the candidate for the We are the change list.

Ghassan Germanos and his relatives are also in competition with another list claiming change.

Even if some of its candidates are former elected officials or from traditional parties, here, as in other constituencies, the opposition risks suffering from its divisions.
