Properly insulating your home guarantees effective protection against the cold in winter and against the heat in summer.

However, among the existing insulators on the market, there is one that combines several advantages.

Both thermal and sound insulation, ease of installation, durability over time… We are talking about wood wool.

Composed of hemp and wood fibers, it is offered in the form of panels, flexible or semi-rigid or in rolls or in bulk (obtained thanks to crushed then dried fibers), sometimes with a veil of comfort which facilitates installation. .

Natural insulation for a healthy home

Like cork, cotton or linen wool or cellulose wadding, wood wool is part of the family of ecological insulation.

Made from agglomerated wood shavings, its main species are spruce, larch or pine.

A design that is also eco-responsible (especially if it favors trees from local forests) since it requires only low energy consumption.

Permeable to water vapor, this material is a good hygrometric regulator, that is to say, it regulates humidity well, thus letting the walls breathe.

In addition, during its cutting and laying, it does not emit irritating or harmful substances.

Totally recyclable, it therefore offers high-performance natural insulation, while being environmentally friendly.

Thermal and acoustic comfort

Due to its low thermal conductivity, wood wool is considered a very good insulator.

In winter, it limits the loss of heat and in summer, it slows down its progression while retaining the coolness accumulated during the night.

As a plant material, it is also an effective acoustic insulator, which reduces noise pollution and external noise and absorbs sound.

However, as it is slightly less insulating than other mineral wools (such as rock or glass wool), you need a slightly greater thickness to obtain an optimal result.

Different forms

Whether for new construction or renovation, wood wool can be used to insulate a complete house: roofs (between or under the rafters), interior walls, partitions and false ceilings, attics, floors and even exterior facades (under siding for example).

In practice, wood wool panels are flexible and deformable, which facilitates first of all cutting with a knife or a special saw, but also laying.

Not to mention that they adapt very well to the contours of the rooms.

When it is in bulk, the wood wool can also be blown on the floor, in particular for the insulation of lost roof spaces.

What are the awards and financial aid?

For wool or wood fiber insulation, count between 15 and 20 euros per m2 for a thickness of 10 cm.

Some subsidies can help you finance this work, such as MaPrimeRénov', aid from Anah, the “insulation boost” offers or the zero-rate eco-loan.

Wool or wood fiber?

Wood wool is also sometimes called wood fiber.

It is in fact a question of rigidity and density: wood fibers have a mass four times larger than wool, which is much lighter.

Professionals therefore recommend using wool for light installations and favoring fibers for the most solid or vertically positioned areas.
