LCD panel maker "Japan Display" announced that it will end production at the Higashiura factory in Aichi prefecture in March next year.

About 250 employees working in the factory are planning to relocate to other offices.

According to the announcement, Japan Display held a board meeting on the 10th and decided to discontinue production at the Higashiura Plant in Higashiura Town, Aichi Prefecture in March next year.

The Higashiura Factory, established in 1997, produces relatively small LCD panels for wearable terminals such as digital cameras and sports watches.

However, due to the spread of smartphones and the decline in demand for digital cameras, we decided to discontinue production of panels of this size.

The company says it is currently hiring more than 250 employees working in the factory and plans to relocate to other offices.

In addition, we are considering how to utilize the land and buildings of the factory, including transferring them to other companies.

Japan Display says, "We believe that it will contribute to strengthening competitiveness and improving profitability over the medium to long term."
