Regarding the system failure of "Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation" that occurred during the Golden Week holidays, the Financial Services Agency has issued an order to request banks and holding companies to report the cause and measures to prevent recurrence based on the law.


It means that the decision was made by taking seriously the fact that the impact spread during the time when there were many users.

At Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, from around 5:30 pm on the 30th of last month, there was a problem that the connection between the bank's core system and the ATM = automated teller machine became unstable.



It became difficult to use due to cash card and credit card transactions at ATMs at convenience stores, as well as charging of cashless payment services on smartphones, and the obstacles continued for more than 16 hours.



According to the people concerned, the Financial Services Agency issued a "report request order" based on the law to the bank and holding company "Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group" on the 9th.



It is said that the decision was made by taking seriously the situation that the impact spread not only to ATM withdrawals but also to cashless payments during the time when there are many users during the Golden Week holidays.



The deadline for reporting is next month 9th.



The Financial Services Agency has a policy of requesting detailed reports on the system management system and investigation of the cause, and promoting the prevention of recurrence.
