At the end of last month, as online communities began to claim that Starbucks paper straws had a strange smell, it was revealed that Starbucks Korea had recovered all of the straws.

Starbucks Korea recalled the amount on the 25th of last month in response to customer feedback that the paper straws used in Starbucks stores smelled of gasoline.

There are three companies that supply paper straws to Starbucks, and Starbucks Korea explains that one of them had a 'smell problem' with straws manufactured at a specific time.

The odor problem is known to have arisen when the manufacturer adjusted the mixing ratio of the coating solution during the manufacturing process to enhance the strength of the paper straws.

Starbucks Korea said, "The ingredients of paper straws are harmless to the human body and are universally used for food containers, and their safety has been verified through inspection by an authorized inspection agency."
