Chongqing: Technology empowers wisdom to protect a river and clear water

CCTV news (news broadcast): Chongqing adheres to innovation-driven, technology empowerment, and spares no effort to protect a river and clear water, and build a strong ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Not long ago, Chongqing's "Smart River Chief" system was officially launched, which enabled more than 17,500 river chiefs in Chongqing to "see the rivers from the sky, manage them in the cloud, check on the ground, and manage them intelligently".

Through satellite remote sensing, intelligent AI video surveillance, drones, unmanned ships, pollution traceability monitoring and other intelligent sensing methods, this system can clearly monitor major river sections such as the Yangtze River, Jialing River, and Wujiang River, and provide timely alarm feedback.

Through efforts, the water ecological environment of the rivers in Chongqing has been continuously improved, the water ecological functions have been gradually restored, and the overall water quality of the main stream and important tributaries of the Yangtze River has been achieved.

Not only the water is clear, but the shore is also green.

In Chongqing Jiangjin, the first stop of the Yangtze River to Chongqing, once, the land on both sides of the river was extensively developed, the loess was exposed, and the soil erosion was very serious.

After many investigations in the local area, the prickly ash tree with developed root system and high economic value was selected and planted on the sloping barren land.

With prickly ash as the dominant tree species, more than 400,000 mu of farmland has been returned to forest in Jiangjin, and the forest coverage rate has increased from less than 30% in the past to 52% now.

In the Jiangjin section along the Yangtze River, the exposed mountains in the past have now been "draped" with green clothes.

Jiangjin has also become a nationally famous "hometown of Chinese peppercorns".

Last year, the planting area of pepper in Jiangjin reached 570,000 mu, with an annual output value of more than 3.7 billion yuan.
