The Iranian government has just decided on a 100% increase in pasta prices and a thirteen-fold increase in the price of flour for manufacturers of industrial bread.

The decision was announced suddenly.

The Minister of Agriculture explained on state television that the war in Ukraine had caused a food crisis across the world and in the region.

He added that these increases were aimed at preventing smuggling to foreign countries where flour costs thirteen to 14 times more.

A neighboring country has a deficit of three million tonnes of wheat and relies on smuggling flour from Iran to make up the shortfall.

But for many Iranians, these increases, which come in an already difficult economic context, with inflation of more than 40% which makes the situation even more difficult, as asserts Reyhaneh, a housewife in her forties. 'years :

These products are essential consumer products and people's plates are becoming more and more limited.

These are products that ordinary people used to get easily, but now they will find it more difficult to do so.

Already, the price of rice or meat has increased by more than 100% over the past year.

The government has promised to provide direct aid to offset these increases, but the deterioration of the economic situation could ignite the powder, as claimed by an MP in a tweet.
