Following the official agreement between the two governments on fishing negotiations between Japan and Russia, which had been delayed due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, salmon and trout fishing in the Pacific Ocean off Hokkaido began on the 3rd, from the port of Nemuro City, Hokkaido. A fishing boat has set sail.

At the Habomai fishing port in Nemuro City, one of the bases for salmon and trout fishing, preparations were underway, such as the crew carrying food to the ship from the night of the 2nd for the first fishing.

Of Japan's exclusive economic zone, salmon and trout fishing in the Pacific Ocean off the south coast of Hokkaido is mostly fish born in Russian rivers, so the catch is decided every year through negotiations between the Japanese and Russian governments. I am.

However, due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the start of fishing negotiations was significantly delayed, and the formal agreement was reached on the 25th of last month, so the start of fishing was delayed by more than three weeks compared to the usual year.

Before leaving the port, a 47-year-old man on the deck said, "I was wondering if I could fish, so I'm glad I finally got out. I'm hoping to get a lot."

Then, at midnight, four of the eight fishing boats scheduled to fish salmon and trout based at the Habomai fishing port left the port while being sent off by their families.

This year, 19 vessels are scheduled to fish at ports such as Nemuro City and Akkeshi Town.
