According to information provided by China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd. on the 29th, since the launch of the rail-sea intermodal train of the new western land-sea channel for five years, a large number of agricultural and sideline products from Gansu, dried fruits from Xinjiang, wolfberry from Ningxia, and auto parts produced in western regions such as Chengdu have been exported in large quantities. To ASEAN countries, it has become a convenient channel for China's western agricultural and sideline products and auto parts to be exported to ASEAN.

On the 28th, a rail-sea intermodal train in the western land-sea new channel loaded with goods departed from the Qinzhou Railway Container Center Station in Guangxi and headed to Chongqing along the route of the first "Yu-Gui-Xin" southbound channel test train five years ago. Tuanjie Village Station marks the five-year operation of the railway-sea combined transport train of the new western land-sea channel.

On April 28, 2017, the first "Yu-Gui-Xin" southbound channel test train was put into operation.

The "Yuguixin" southbound channel is the predecessor of the new western land-sea channel.

The traffic volume of the new channel increases by leaps and bounds year by year

Statistics from China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd. show that in the past five years, the volume of container traffic transported by rail-sea intermodal trains in the new western land-sea channel has achieved leapfrog growth year by year.

In 2017, only 3,382 TEUs of containerized cargo were sent, which increased to 53,400 TEUs in 2018 and 94,000 TEUs in 2019.

Especially since 2020, in the face of the unfavorable impact of the COVID-19 epidemic raging around the world, the container volume of the train has increased instead of falling, achieving explosive growth against the trend. The cumulative container volume in 2020 and 2021 will reach 313,000 standard boxes and 632,000 TEUs.

In five years, the container volume of the train has reached 1.322 million TEUs, an increase of 186 times in 2021 compared with 2017.

This year's transportation volume continued to grow rapidly. As of April 28, the rail-sea intermodal trains had delivered a total of 226,000 TEUs of containerized cargo, which was 2.4 times the total transportation volume in 2019, and a year-on-year increase of 46%.

"It took us more than 4 years to complete the first target of 500,000 TEUs, but it took us less than a year to complete the second target of 500,000 TEUs." Talking about the development and changes of rail-sea combined transport in the new western land-sea channel , Chen Xiaohui, Deputy Director of the Freight Department of China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd., is proud of himself.

"The first train 5 years ago was the order I gave. At that time, I didn't expect the new western land-sea train to develop so fast!" said Song Shijun, deputy director of the operation department of Guangxi Coastal Railway Company.

Five years ago, when he was the head of Qinzhou Port Station, he witnessed the successful opening of the first "Yuguixin" southbound channel test train.

Connecting 107 countries and regions around the world

Once the rail-sea intermodal train of the new western land-sea channel is launched, it will have inherent transportation advantages.

According to the introduction of China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd., taking Chongqing as an example, going to Qinzhou Port in Guangxi via the new land-sea passage in the west can save about 10 days compared with going to sea via the eastern region.

Thanks to this, in the past five years, the railway-sea combined transport trains of the new western land-sea channel have been running from line to surface and gradually become a network.

From the beginning, there was only one Beibu Gulf-Chongqing train line, and now it has become a normalized operation of Beibu Gulf Port-Chongqing, Beibu Gulf Port-Sichuan, Beibu Gulf Port-Yunnan, Beibu Gulf Port-Guizhou, Beibu Gulf Port-Guidong/ There are 6 routes in northern Guangxi and seamless connection with China-Europe trains; the scope of operation covers 102 stations in 53 cities in 16 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), transporting more than 640 types of goods, connecting 316 ports in 107 countries and regions around the world .

In the past five years, Guangxi has realized the electrification of all main lines of railways going to the sea. The running speed of freight trains has been increased from 44 km/h to 80 km/h, the transportation time has been reduced by nearly 20%, and the traction weight has been increased to 4,700 tons. The transportation capacity of main trunk lines is higher than that of 2017. Annual increase of 6.5%.

Important hub sites such as Qinzhou Railway Container Center Station, Nanning International Railway Port, Liuzhou Railway Port, Liuzhou South Railway Logistics Center, and National Railway Pingxiang Inbound Fruit Port Logistics Center have been built or opened successively, and the railway logistics port cluster has initially formed.

Marked by the opening and operation of the special line for entering the Beihai Tieshan Port, the important port area of Beibu Gulf has achieved full coverage of the railway entering the port.

The commissioning of a number of major projects has rapidly improved the "point" and "line" capabilities of rail-sea intermodal trains in the new western land-sea channel, forming a rail-sea intermodal transport system that serves the new western land-sea channel with a smooth connection.

RCEP comes into effect, enabling the diversification of cargo transportation

On January 1 this year, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) came into effect, and the new western land-sea corridor was further empowered by policies, and the logistics and transportation of the corridor became more prosperous.

Since the beginning of this year, rail-sea combined transport routes such as "UAE-Qinzhou-Lanzhou" and "Southeast Asia-Qinzhou-Xi'an" have been opened successively, which has increased the transportation of special categories of goods such as automobiles imported from the Middle East, and customized logistics services have become increasingly diversified.

With the smooth two-way opening of the "RCEP-Beibu Gulf Port-Henan" rail-sea intermodal train on April 16, it marked the successful expansion of the rail-sea intermodal train in the new western land-sea channel to the central region, and the train operation network was further expanded.

It is reported that in 2022, the western region is expected to import raw sugar, rubber, starch and other products through Beibu Gulf Port with an increase of about 50,000 tons, and export to Southeast Asia through Beibu Gulf Port about 10,000 TEUs of industrial machinery and chemical products, which will attract More goods will get on the "express train" of the channel, realizing the two-way "running" of domestic and foreign trade in the channel, and unblocking the domestic and international dual circulation empowerment.
