Eid coins were sold out from some bank tellers

The new coins printed by the Central Bank in denominations of 5 and 10 dirhams witnessed a great demand for their acquisition by dealers, in preparation for their distribution as a joyful “Eid” for young and old.

The Central Bank said in a statement issued this morning that it distributed quantities of the new currency to a number of banks that have configured some of their ATMs to allow the withdrawal of these small denominations, as it is common knowledge that the minimum withdrawal amount is 100 dirhams.

According to information collected by "Emirates Today", these currencies were implemented from the ATMs of more than one of those banks, while other banks provide the new currencies in specific amounts that do not exceed half of the withdrawn amount and in denominations ranging between 50, 10 and 5 dirhams.

Banking sources said: "Due to the closure of bank branches, new currencies are only available through ATMs for a limited number of banks, but after the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, the Central Bank will pump additional amounts of these currencies as well as increase the number of banks and ATMs that provide them."
