The

Government

has contemplated in its macroeconomic and fiscal table that in 2023

the salary of public employees

will increase according to

inflation

, despite the doubts that existed about the evolution of this item.

"The path is made for constant policies, inertial,

except in the evolution of salaries and pensions, where the CPI is accommodated

", the Minister of Finance,

María Jesús Montero

, made clear during the joint press conference with the first vice president , Nadia Calviño, in which they presented the macroeconomic table with the path of deficit and public debt that will be sent to Brussels today together with the Stability Program.

Sources from his Ministry have confirmed to EL MUNDO that "in 2022 public salaries have already been revalued based on the General State Budgets and

from 2023 it will be done in line with the evolution of prices

".

The minister herself has referred both to public salaries and

pensions

, despite the fact that the revaluation system of both is different.

Pensions will automatically rise by a percentage equivalent to the average of the

interannual CPI registered from December 2021 to November 2022,

as stated in the pension reform approved last year.

For the salary of

public employees

, however,

there is no automatic procedure.

Usually the Ministry of Public Function negotiates with the majority unions and an increase is agreed, although the Government already foresees that it will be equal to the evolution of prices.

So far this year,

the CPI has risen 8% on average

and institutions such as the Bank of Spain expect it to moderate in the coming months to reach an

annual average of 7.5%,

and the Government itself forecasts a

consumption deflator private

(similar to the IPC) of 6%

.

If the Executive uses this evolution of prices to calculate the salary increase of civil servants, it would be in that environment, although it could also use the

inflation forecast for next year

, in line with what has been done on other occasions .

The projected private consumption deflator for 2023 is around 2%.

Sánchez suggested that it would be linked to the rise of the private sector

This message from the minister came

ten days after the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez,

said that the salary increase for public employees would be conditioned by the one agreed in the private sector between employers and unions.

"Right now unions and businessmen are negotiating this rent agreement, where not only do we have to talk about salaries, we also have to talk about dividends, the distribution of profits by large companies, and

based on that we will see what the evolution and the negotiation that is articulated with respect to public workers

", he stated in an interview on Antena 3.

As this medium already told, his statements infuriated the officials, who consider that it is not democratic to "steal the salary negotiation" from their group.

"The President of the Government is very poorly informed about the situation of public employees and the mechanisms for negotiating our salaries, which depend on the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations. We have already requested a meeting with the minister [María Jesús Montero]. No you can steal the salary negotiation from the union representatives of the Public Function. It is not democratic, "

Miguel Borra

, president of

CSIF

, complained then .

This union, which is the most representative of public employees, has expressed itself today along the same lines: " There is an

urgent need to negotiate the wage increase for public employees

: we are suffering a loss of purchasing power of 15% and if the Government is not height we will take to the streets with a great mobilization", he has threatened in a note distributed on the occasion of May 1.
