Dubai Airports Corporation has announced the enhancement of the operational capacity at Dubai World Central Airport (DWC), the second airport in Dubai, and the benefit of the strong infrastructure to improve the passenger experience and facilitate their journey during the closing period of the northern runway at Dubai International Airport DXB, which begins on the ninth From May and continues until June 22, 2022, by restarting the service facilities at full capacity.

The Corporation stated, in a statement, that the northern runway at Dubai International Airport will undergo a comprehensive development process over a period of 45 days, with the aim of providing the highest safety standards, enhancing services and operational capacity to receive tens of millions of travelers through the airport during the year.

More than 1,000 flights per week will be directed to Dubai World Central Airport during this period, with most of these flights operated by companies: Fly Dubai, Spice Jet, Indigo and Gulf Air.

"Dubai Airports" explained that, in conjunction with the increase in passenger traffic during this period, the "Dubai World Central" airport will restart service facilities, to enhance the passenger experience and ensure a smooth and comfortable journey for them, as restaurants, cafes and shopping centers will be opened at full capacity, while offices are preparing Complete travel and check-in procedures at the airport, customs office, and immigration procedures, to welcome all passengers at the airport.

“Dubai Airports” called on all travelers to and from Dubai during the period of closing the northern runway, to communicate with the airlines for their reservations, or the departures / arrivals building, before the date of their flight.

With the aim of improving and supporting the passengers’ experience and providing them with all the comforts, “Dubai Airports” confirmed the provision of transportation between Dubai International Airport and “Dubai World Central”, with flexible and varied options to facilitate the movement of travelers during the closure period that lasts up to 45 days, including a service Free buses between the two airports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, free parking spaces for travelers through Dubai World Central, in addition to exclusive rates for RTA taxis for all trips from the airport.

North Stand Renovation

The northern runway renovation project includes asphalting about 160,000 tons of asphalt, in addition to 30,000 cubic meters of concrete, to strengthen and flatten the runway and adjacent walkways.

Some 264 kilometers of branch cables will be replaced, and more than 4,400 units of runway lighting fixtures will be upgraded, using economical and environmentally friendly technologies.

The northern runway underwent a similar development during 2014, while the southern runway was renovated in 2019.

The northern runway renovation project comes within the framework of Dubai Airports' efforts and continuous commitment to enhancing the security and safety of passengers, and providing an exceptional travel experience, in line with its efforts to increase the capacity at Dubai International Airport.
