Social Security allocated in the current month of April the record figure of

10,798 million euros to the payment of

contributory pensions, 4.9% more than in the same month of 2021, as reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations.

The Department headed by José Luis Escrivá estimates that pension spending stood at 11.9% of GDP in the fourth month of the year, a lower percentage than in 2020 (12.4% of GDP), a year conditioned by the impact of the pandemic on GDP, and also lower than that of 2021 (12.1% of GDP), according to Europa Press.

Of the 10,798 million euros that were dedicated in April to the payment of contributory pensions, almost three quarters (72.3%) were allocated to the payment of retirement pensions, which totaled an amount of 7,807.9 million euros , 7.1% more than in April 2021.

1,826.4 million euros were allocated to widow's pensions, 5.1% more than a year ago, while 985.7 million euros (+4.7%) were allocated to benefits for permanent disability.

For its part, the payment of orphan's benefits entailed an amount of 149.9 million (+5.6%), and that of benefits in favor of relatives totaled 28.1 million euros (+8.1%) .

THE AVERAGE PENSION INCREASES TO 1,251 EUROS

In April of this year,

contributory pensions were paid, 1% more than a year ago.

Of the total pensions, more than 6.23 million were retirement pensions;

2.35 million were widow's pensions;

952,455 were permanently disabled;

342,758 were orphan's pensions, and 44,306, in favor of relatives.

The average retirement pension reached 1,251.5 euros per month in April, 5.4% more than in the same month last year.

In the General Scheme, the average retirement pension amounted to 1,401.2 euros per month, compared to 833.3 euros per month in the Self-Employed Scheme.

In Coal Mining, the average retirement pension is 2,439.8 euros per month and in Sea Mining, 1,389.9 euros.

In April, the average widow's pension stood at 776.8 euros per month, with year-on-year growth of 5.1%, while the system's average pension, which includes the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood , orphans and in favor of relatives), increased by 5.4%, reaching 1,087.5 euros per month on April 1.

The amount of new retirement registrations rose in March (latest data available) to 1,436.2 euros per month.

The Ministry has also reported that some 98,000 pensions saw the supplement for long contribution careers contemplated in the pension reform recognized in the April payroll and whose amount reached 2.8 million euros.

This supplement, whose amount ranges between 4.5 and 82 euros per month, was included in the reform to compensate pensioners who have retired early in the last 20 years with a long contribution career.

PASSIVE CLASSES

On the other hand, the number of pensions belonging to passive classes in force at the end of March (latest data available) was 682,599, a figure 2% higher than that of the same month of 2021. The monthly payroll of these pensions amounted to 1,309.3 million euros, 7.6% more than in March of last year.

The State Passive Class Regime basically includes military personnel and civil servants from the General State Administration, the Administration of Justice, the General Courts and other constitutional or state bodies, as well as civil servants transferred to the autonomous communities.

216,100 pensions received the gender gap supplement

, whose objective is to correct the difference that occurs between the average pension received by a man and that received by a woman.

The average monthly amount of this supplement in the pension, received by 93.7% by women, is 61.78 euros.

Of the 216,100 supplemented pensions, 20.9% corresponds to pensioners with one child (45,159);

47.5%, with two children (102,776);

20.2%, with three (43,581), and 11.4% (24,584), with four children.
