Britain cancels tariffs on Ukrainian products

Britain announced yesterday the cancellation of all customs duties on Ukrainian products and the ban on the export of some sensitive technologies to Russia, with the aim of helping Ukraine confront the Russian invasion, according to Agence France-Presse.

The British government said in a statement, "Customs duties on all goods imported from Ukraine are now non-existent and the quota system will be completely abolished."

This measure comes in response to a direct request by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the statement.

The measure means, in particular, barley, honey, poultry and canned tomatoes, which Ukraine exports to the United Kingdom.

International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said: "The UK will continue to do everything in its power to support Ukraine's struggle against the brutal and unjustified invasion of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and to contribute to ensuring the long-term security and prosperity of Ukraine and its people." .

Britain also prevented exports of certain products and technologies to Russia, especially those that it "could use to oppress the valiant people of Ukraine", such as communications monitoring and surveillance equipment.

"This will allow all existing loopholes to be filled with the aim of ensuring that Russia does not buy these products from the United Kingdom," the British statement added.

Last week, the British government expanded its list of economic sanctions by preventing the import of silver, wood products and caviar and increasing customs duties by 35 percent on some products imported from Russia and its ally Belarus, especially diamonds and rubber.

London asserts that since the start of the war on Ukraine, it has imposed sanctions on more than 1,400 people and companies linked to the Putin regime.
