Attracting some 30,000 young people each year, work-study training has become a popular solution for those who wish to train while already having a foothold in working life.

By juggling between theoretical learning in a school and practical work in a company, the work-study program is an opportunity to continue your studies while acquiring concrete professional experience and receiving a salary.

Two paths are available to candidates: the apprenticeship contract or the professionalization contract.

Explanations.

The apprenticeship contract

The first solution which is part of the work-study program is the apprenticeship contract.

This allows you to obtain a state diploma, i.e. a CAP, a BTS, a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, etc., or a title for professional purposes registered in the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP ).

This agreement is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 29, or over if you are recognized as a disabled worker, if you are a high-level athlete or if your business creation project requires obtaining a diploma. 'State.

Similarly, young people at the end of 3rd class, if they are over 15, can enroll in an apprenticeship under school status, in a vocational high school or in an apprentice training center (CFA).

The professionalization contract

For its part, the purpose of the professionalization contract is to acquire a recognized professional qualification, whether by the RNCP or a national collective agreement, for example.

Its objective is the integration or return to employment of candidates.

The professionalization contract is thus aimed primarily at 16-25 year olds, but also at job seekers over 26, beneficiaries of the RSA, the specific solidarity allowance (ASS), the disabled adult (AAH) or the single integration contract (CUI).

Duration and remuneration

Apprenticeship or professionalization, it doesn't matter, the contracts are most often concluded within the framework of a CDD, and sometimes a CDI.

For the first, the duration of training varies from 6 months to three years (four years for disabled workers) and includes at least 25% of the time in the company.

Remuneration depends on the age of the apprentice and progresses each year of the contract.

It thus oscillates between 27% and 67% of the minimum wage up to the age of 20 and between 53% and 100% of the minimum wage from the age of 21.

As part of a professionalization contract, the course generally lasts between 6 months and a year, with a theoretical part representing between 15 and 25% of the total period of the contract, without being able to be less than 150 hours.

As for the remuneration, it also depends on the initial training and the age of the work-study student.

For example, for a young person under 21, who does not have his baccalaureate, it will be at least 55% of the minimum wage.

It goes to the minimum wage or to 85% of the ordinary conventional minimum wage from the age of 26.

In either case, conventional or contractual provisions may provide for more favorable remuneration for the work-study student.
