On the 25th, the two governments formally agreed on fishing negotiations between Japan and Russia, which had been delayed due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and salmon and trout fishing in the Pacific Ocean off Hokkaido is expected to begin early next month. rice field.

Of Japan's exclusive economic zone, salmon and trout fishing in the Pacific Ocean off the south coast of Hokkaido is mostly fish born in Russian rivers, so the catch is collected every year through negotiations between the Japanese and Russian governments. I have decided.

This time, due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the start of fishing negotiations was significantly delayed from the usual year, but the negotiations that have been ongoing online were virtually concluded last week, and both sides formally agreed on the 25th. Signed by the government.

Specifically, the catch of this year will be set to 2050 tons, which is the same as last year.

On that basis, Japan decided to pay the Russian side 200 to 300 million yen as a fishery cooperation fee depending on the catch.

The lower limit of 200 million yen for fishery cooperation costs has been reduced by 60 million yen from last year, given that the catch has been sluggish in recent years.

Unusual fishing negotiations have been concluded as countries including Japan impose strict sanctions on Russia, and salmon and trout fishing in the Pacific Ocean off Hokkaido is expected to begin early next month.
