By presenting the Estrema versions of the well-known Giulia and Stelvio on a beautiful March morning in Zurich, Alfa Romeo wanted to fill the gap between the Veloce finish and the very desirable Quadrifolgio.

To justify this name, the sedan and the SUV of the

Biscione

passed, among others, between the hands of the engineers of the Sauber team which hides behind Alfa Romeo in Formula 1. Carbon fiber abounds in the Estrema.

Whether it's on the grille, the mirror caps or in the interior trimmed with red stitching, they're everywhere!

From a technical point of view, the Estrema are equipped with a limited slip differential which aims to optimize traction during acceleration and cornering as well as an adaptive suspension which automatically adjusts the setting of the shock absorbers according to the condition of the road.

For the rest, nothing new.

We find the well-known Veloce four-cylinder turbo.

In essence, 280 horsepower.

In diesel, 210 horsepower.

The same, but (a little) better

The Giulia & Stelvio Estrema hardly surprise or disappoint us.

Already in their Veloce versions, their dynamic character had been recognized for many years and it is only sublimated in this sharpened version but not so bad as its coat of arms announces.

Nothing fundamentally new under the Milan sun, in other words.

In summary, the Estrema are to the Quadrifloglio what the Audi S-Line are to the real S and RS.

Personally, we would have liked a name a little less overused for this finish with sporty hints.

The Alfa Romeo mythology is full of mythical totems like "GT" or "Monza".

The name Estrema would have been, in our opinion, much more plausible for a very attractive Giulia, halfway between the formidable Quadrifoglio and the inaccessible GTA…
