[Explanation] In the face of changes in the domestic and international situation, how should China play a leading role in scientific and technological innovation and solve the problem of "stuck neck" in key technologies?

On April 17, Xue Lan, Dean of Schwarzman College of Tsinghua University, said in an interview with reporters that China should continue to deepen the reform of the scientific and technological innovation system and mechanism, and continuously improve the efficiency of the innovation system.

It is still necessary to continue to deepen the reform of our scientific and technological innovation system.

I think first of all, we should say that we have made a lot of progress in the past few years.

But another point, the efficiency of our current innovation system, or we still have a big gap in this kind of original research.

[Explanation] Xue Lan said that to play the leading role of scientific and technological innovation, it is necessary to pay attention to the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Although China has made great progress and attaches great importance to cutting-edge innovation, the foundation of scientific and technological transformation capabilities is still weak.

A very important point of technological innovation is how to transform it (scientific and technological achievements).

In fact, it is about how to make our labor productivity higher, to be able to use cutting-edge technology, how to produce it faster, and to apply it better.

In this regard, we should say that considerable progress has been made.

But we also see that in fact, a lot of our progress in the past is still stepping on the shoulders of others. In many of these areas, our foundation is not very solid.

So this means that once we take measures like the United States to "stuck the neck", we will feel that we are controlled by others in many aspects.

[Explanation] How to break through the technical problem of "stuck neck"?

Xue Lan said that it is necessary to establish a system of self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology as soon as possible, give full play to the joint efforts of the country, research institutions, universities and enterprises, and continuously promote the progress of scientific and technological innovation.

What is more urgent now is to establish a system of self-reliance and self-improvement of our technology, to break through these technical problems of "stuck neck".

This requires the country to better organize, whether it is research institutions, universities, and enterprises to jointly solve these problems.

So put these together to promote the continuous progress in this field of scientific and technological innovation in China to ensure that we are always on the "first train" of scientific and technological progress.

[Explanation] Xue Lan proposed that the development of technological innovation is inseparable from the support of finance.

In recent years, the development of artificial intelligence and the Internet is inseparable from venture capital.

[Concurrent] Xue Lan, Dean of Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University

We did a research in the field of artificial intelligence a few years ago. At that time, we found that China, like Beijing’s venture capital in the field of artificial intelligence at that time, attracted the highest investment in venture capital in the world.

We have also seen that in the past few years, the reason why China, such as the Internet field, etc., has been able to develop so vigorously and rapidly, in fact, the field of venture capital and venture capital is inseparable from its activity level.
