Last week, we reported that Shinhan Card issued an incorrect card number and there is a risk of being stolen.

After that, when the financial authorities investigated, the same thing was happening not only with Shinhan Card, but also with most credit card companies.

Reporter Im Tae-woo reports.

This is the fault of the credit card companies that the Financial Supervisory Service confirmed after the SBS report.

During the issuance of some cards, the last digits were assigned in the order in which the cards were issued.

The 500th card issued was 500, the 501st was 501, and so on.

Since the card was issued during the same period, the validity period is also the same.

After all, if you only know the number of one card, you can add or subtract one from that number to pay with someone else's card.

In particular, overseas shopping malls can be abused because they become 'simple payment' only with the card number and expiration date.

Not only Shinhan Card, but most card companies were attaching numbers in this way.

The only foreigner Citicard issued a random number, so it was safe.

Domestic card companies started work on improvement belatedly saying they would do it like Citi Card.

[Card company officials: I understand that each card company has started development to change the card number system.

It will take about a month or two (it is expected to take)]

The credit card companies said that there was no damage to overseas payments due to this problem, and recommended that you apply for a service that blocks overseas payments if you are anxious.

However, the credit card companies did not directly explain to the customers, and they are not taking fundamental measures such as making them choose to reissue.
