There has been a report that a credit card issued by Shinhan Card is vulnerable to security.

Because the card number is issued poorly, even without hacking, the card number of another person can be easily inferred and can be used for online shopping.

Reporter Kim Bo-mi covered the details of the report.

Credit card number is financial information.

The first 6 digits are assigned to the card company's unique number, and the remaining last digits are assigned to the customer's unique number.

You are identifying your customer by the back seat.

However, a report came in that Shinhan Card had issued a customer number for a specific card poorly.

[Informant: It is the XXth card issued, and based on this card number, the next card number is 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, etc.

.]

It means that they are numbered in the order of issuance. If true, cards issued at the same time period have the same expiration date.

Domestic online shopping malls require additional CVC or password, but in the case of overseas sites such as Amazon, payment is possible only with the card number and expiration date.

When I tried to pay by phone by slightly changing the number on the physical card as claimed by the informant,

[Phone payment ARS: Press the amount to be approved in won, and when the input is complete…

]

As it is confirmed as a valid card, you can see that it proceeds to the payment stage.

As the number increases by 1 in the physical card number, it proceeds to the payment stage.

When I increased it for a while, it said that it was not a valid number, but when I increased the validity period by one month, it was possible to pay again.

It is suspected that the card numbers were given in the order in which they were issued.

Shinhan Card said it could not confirm the method of assigning card numbers because it could be abused for crime, but said that they would check the numbering system as the problem was raised.

The Financial Supervisory Service said that it would come up with an improvement plan, saying that it has confirmed that there is an insufficient part in the numbering system of the card.
