Marketed for 3 years, the large SUV from BMW benefits from what is commonly called a mid-career update.

Aesthetically speaking, the main changes concern the front face.

Newly structured, it takes up characteristic elements such as the 2-stage headlamps (the upper one houses the position lights, the daytime running lights and the indicators, while the LED blocks located below manage the dipped beam and driving lights) and the large grille which now lights up on the top-of-the-range M60i version (optional for the others).

The rear evolves to a lesser extent, in particular with reworked lights.

Also note the appearance of new colors and new rims.

As standard, the X7 is 20 inches.

Top models and those with the M Sport package come with 21-inch M light-alloy wheels, but 23-inch wheels (!!) are available as an option.

A first for BMW.

Inside, the main novelty concerns the dashboard, taking up the double curved screen already seen in particular on the iX, while the standard equipment is enriched with Comfort seats.

Finally, driver assistance systems are even more numerous than in the past.

Mild hybridization

At the top of the range of gasoline engines, the 4.4-liter V8 now powers the M60i (formerly M50i) version.

It develops 530 hp and 750 Nm. Next comes a latest-generation in-line 6-cylinder which, compared to the previous 40i version, gains 47 hp to reach 380 hp, while its torque increases from 70 Nm to 540 Nm. The X7 remains available in Diesel version.

The 6-cylinder in line 40d delivers 352 hp and 700 Nm, or even 720 Nm with the addition of the mild hybrid system.

The most important common characteristic of these three engines is indeed the integration of the 48 V light hybridization which brings 12 hp and 200 Nm more.

All engines are mated to an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox including steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a Sprint function.

Power from the engine is transmitted to the road – or the terrain – via the intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Global commercial launch will begin next August.
