The certificate of aptitude for the functions of animator of collective reception of minors (Bafa) is part of the small summer jobs which allow you to expand your CV and obtain your first experience in the field from the age of 17.

Nevertheless, this diploma, which allows you to work in leisure centers and other summer camps, is no longer popular.

While the sector is struggling to recruit, the state has decided to give a boost.

Shortage of candidates

The Bafa has been experiencing a haemorrhage of candidates for several years.

According to annual diploma statistics published by the National Institute of Youth and Popular Education (Injep), the number of patents granted fell from 54,800 in 2016 to 42,900 in 2019, a decrease of 28%.

And the fall in the number of applicants has been accentuated under the effect of the health crisis.

Thus, only 31,000 Bafa were issued in 2020. The certificate of aptitude for the functions of director (Bafd), which makes it possible to claim a position of responsibility from the age of 18, is even less successful, since there were 2,300 graduates in 2018, compared to 2,000 in 2020.

However, although various external factors contribute to the decline in popularity of these diplomas, the price of this paid training can hinder more than one from getting started.

If the prices vary according to the establishments, the general training session indeed costs around 500 euros, to which will be added some 400 euros for the deepening course, for a total of 900 euros.

Collect the aid

To reduce the bill, you can count on certain public aid.

CAF grants a boost of 91.47 euros, without means test, accessible to all.

The national envelope can reach 106.71 euros if you opt for an in-depth session centered on early childhood.

Also ask the CAF of your department, which can allocate local aid.

Similarly, some local authorities sponsor the passages of Bafa.

Subject to resources, candidates from Nouvelle-Aquitaine can, for example, obtain 200 euros for a simple Bafa and 400 euros for a Bafd, while the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region allocates 200 euros to high school students and apprentices, in return for 35 hours. of volunteering.

Remember to inquire with the Regional Academic Delegation for Youth,

commitment and sports (DRAJES) or the Regional Directorate for the Economy, Employment, Labor and Solidarity (DREETS) in your area.

If you are registered with Pôle emploi, be aware that this training can also be covered.

To counter the effects of the health crisis and support the animation sector, which needs the seasonal employment of young Bafa holders to function, the State has also set up exceptional aid of 200 euros, without condition of resources, to pass this diploma since January 1, 2022. The amount is here directly deducted from the registration fees for a deepening or qualification session at the Bafa (general training is not concerned).
