Salmon fishing in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Hokkaido, which is usually lifted from April 10th.

Due to Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, the fishing negotiations between the Japanese and Russian governments necessary for fishing had not been held, but the Fisheries Agency announced that it will start negotiations on the afternoon of the 11th.

Most of the salmon trout drift net fishing carried out in Japan's exclusive economic zone, such as off Nemuro in Hokkaido, was born in a Russian river. I have decided.

The ban will be lifted from April 10 after negotiations every year, but negotiations have not been held so far due to the influence of Russia's military invasion.

As a result, there were concerns among fishermen that there was no prospect of fishing.

Under these circumstances, the Fisheries Agency announced that it will start fishing negotiations with Russia online on the afternoon of the 11th.

The attendees on the Japanese side are the Director of the Resource Management Department of the Fisheries Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the person in charge of Hokkaido, and the people involved in the fishing industry.

On the Russian side, executives from the Federal Fisheries Agency and officials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will attend.

It will be an unusual fishing negotiation as countries including Japan impose strict sanctions on Russia.

It seems that the Fisheries Agency has decided that negotiations are unavoidable in order to secure the interests of Japanese fishing.

However, since the Russian side is strongly opposed to the sanctions of Japan so far, there is a risk that the negotiation itself will break down or it will be difficult.
