The 48-year-old volunteer Hu Jinxiu's WeChat profile picture is a picture of a pile of cabbage.

"I just changed it recently. I hope everyone can eat and eat." She said.

The Kanghuayuan community in Dachang Town, Baoshan District, Shanghai, where she lives, has six or seven thousand people, including two or three thousand elderly people.

During the lockdown period, how to eat for so many elderly people who can't shop online has become a problem.

"Road to Forming a Group": vegetable group, fruit group, egg group...

Hu Jinxiu is usually a financier. In her own words, she deals more with numbers and is not very good at socializing.

As a member of the Economic Comprehensive Branch of the Changning District Committee of the Democratic League, she signed up for volunteer service on April 1, when the nucleic acid screening was started in Puxi, Shanghai.

In the beginning, her job was mainly to help residents with nucleic acid testing.

During this process, she gradually became acquainted with the residents of the community, and elderly people continued to come to consult her: there is no food behind, what should I do?

Before the lockdown on April 1, the elderly in the community went to vegetable markets and supermarkets to buy vegetables bit by bit, because they could not carry too much and did not prepare much.

Seeing that the lockdown cannot be lifted as scheduled, what to do with the "vegetable basket" of so many elderly people is worrying.

After trying many methods but with little success, on April 3, Hu Jinxiu decided to start a vegetable group. She asked the volunteer group in the town for group purchase resources, and finally locked a vegetable farm in Qingpu and started the road of group purchase in the community. .

She mobilized residents to find resources for group buying together, "mobilize everyone's strength, there is a way to do it if you want to."

For the elderly who cannot buy Solitaire in a group, volunteers will buy it and pay offline; or let the family members of the elderly add volunteer WeChat to connect "young people".

Gradually, 30 group buying groups have been formed in the community, including vegetable groups, fruit groups, egg groups, rice groups... There are more than 80 groups in the group buying team, of which more than 50 are responsible for online group purchases, and more than 20 are responsible for delivery. Ages ranged from their 20s to their 70s.

What moved Hu Jinxiu was that there was also an old party member in his 70s in the group buying team. He said that he had no ability to help with online operations, but he also wanted to do something, so he used his moped to help deliver the goods.

After exploration, community group buying has become more and more standardized.

In the past few days, the volunteers have also set up a group leader group to review the qualifications of suppliers, organize group purchase information, and back it up to the community committee; a supervision mechanism has also been established. If residents have complaints, they will remind the corresponding group in the group leader group. The head of the team resolves.

"What we want is affordable, quality-assured materials" and "soy products are liked by the elderly." In the interview, Hu Jinxiu said it as usual.

"The Way of Love": Need More Caring Young Forces

Hu Jinxiu said frankly that when he first signed up as a volunteer, he thought it would only take three or four days.

But she has no regrets at all. "I hope to do something for these elderly people. My parents are out of town and they are so old."

Hu Jinxiu said that there are many families of intellectuals in the community who have had a lot of life experiences. Now when they encounter difficulties, there are volunteers to help, which makes the elderly especially moved.

Volunteers will also go to find out which families are more difficult, buy an extra copy during group purchases, and quietly put the dishes at their door.

Talking about the experience of "forming a group", Hu Jinxiu said that there must be young people, "I stay up all night until two or three in the morning every day, and my mind is in a state of being in a circle. This is a very labor-intensive thing, older people. even more unbearable.”

She said, especially when organizing a group, she has to keep checking her mobile phone to determine who bought and paid, and then find a way to confirm the transportation of the goods, when to pick up the group, and when to distribute it to the household. These workloads are too much. big.

  Also, have love and patience.

"You can't do it without this."

she says.

Recently purchased items

It is inevitable to encounter bumps in group buying.

For example, eggs will be lost during transportation.

Hu Jinxiu said that at times like this, the volunteers will take it upon themselves. "If we don't care, we can volunteer and don't care about these little things."

There are also times when they are not understood, and the volunteers will cheer each other on - "You did a good job." Then, it is time to work or continue to work.

They make data transparent about the amounts paid to suppliers for purchases.

In the "Tuan Tuan" statistics table, there are information such as the name of the shopping group, the name and phone number of the group leader, the number of group purchases, and the estimated time of arrival.

The series of data is "organized", which also makes residents more trustworthy in community group buying.

If there is an occasional delay, the volunteers will also issue a notice, explain the situation, and relay the chat records with the supplier. Most residents also expressed their understanding.

The volunteers declined the suggestion of the residents to add more money for each order. "We don't think it is necessary. We are not here to make money and work hard for this."

Hu Jinxiu said that there are more than 150 volunteers in the community, and the number is still increasing.

"We work together, keep working hard, we can't just lie down, that's impossible," she said.
