The ContiRe.Tex technology uses polyester yarns obtained from used plastic bottles and which are not recycled in any other way and without any intermediate chemical step.

In a special recycling process, the bottles are sorted and mechanically cleaned after being uncapped.

The PET is then shredded, transformed into pellets, and finally into polyester threads.

All tires with ContiRe.Tex technology currently produced in the next market launch phase come from Continental's tire factory in Lousado, Portugal.

Tires with this technology carry a special “Contains Recycled Material” logo on the sidewall.

Also in competition

For the second season of the all-electric Extreme E racing series that started last February, Continental has developed a tire that also uses ContiRe.Tex.

In the same vein, this year's Tour de France support vehicles will also be equipped exclusively with ContiRe.Tex tyres.

The PremiumContact 6, EcoContact 6 and AllSeasonContact tires will be the first to benefit from this new technology.

It takes about 40 recycled PET bottles to make one set of car tyres.
