In collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Aramco) and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Hyundai Motor Group is conducting research to develop a fuel synthesized from green hydrogen (produced by electrolysis of water with renewable electricity) and carbon dioxide (80% reduction in life cycle emissions) that would be used in an ultra lean burn spark ignition engine to reduce CO2 emissions.

Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have each announced plans to become carbon neutral in their products and global operations by 2045.
