• The ski resorts of the Pyrenees have recorded an increase in attendance this season compared to that of 2019-2020 thanks to heavy snowfall, in particular.

  • A few stations still remain open until the end of the month, while the holidays begin this Friday evening for zone B.

After an almost white season due to the Covid-19 crisis, and stationary lifts, the ski resorts of the Pyrenees are posting “exceptional” results this season.

On an empty stomach last winter, ski enthusiasts returned to the slopes.

And early snowfall has allowed resorts to open quite early this season.

The three resorts managed by Altiservice, including Font-Romeu and Saint-Lary, recorded more than 1.2 million skier days, up compared to winter 2019/2020.

Attendance at Saint-Lary is even up 29% compared to the previous season.

"This winter is a milestone for Altiservice, which is regaining economic stability and will allow us to see further in our management of ski areas", explains Yves Rougier, its CEO, whose resorts are now closed.

Still a few stations open

The same is true for the eight ski areas of N'Py, which over the past four months have recorded 2.1 million ski days, up 18% compared to the 2019/2020 season.

The return of the cold and the snowfall of last week allow three resorts to remain open for a few more days while the spring holidays begin this Friday evening for zone B. This is the case of Pierre-Saint Martin which will close its slopes on Sunday evening, from Piau in operation until April 18 and from Cauterets until April 24.

The slopes of the Pic du Midi will still be accessible to freeride enthusiasts until May 8.

Vacationers have come in large numbers this winter to @npyski resorts.

While 3 ski areas as well as the @PicduMidi are still open, the 1st results are extremely encouraging: the level of attendance before the health crisis is even exceeded!

The skis and snowboards will then be put away to make way for mountain biking and hiking activities.

“We are already preparing for the summer season which should build on this momentum.

It is the "4 seasons" strategy that we wish to develop for the future of the massif and the attractiveness of our mountain territories", indicates Carole Delga, the president of the Compagnie des Pyrénées, parent company of N'Py which represents more than half of the ski areas of the massif.
