As labor shortages become more serious at construction and logistics sites, there is a growing movement to put the automatic operation of forklifts into practical use.

The forklift truck developed by the major construction company "Shimizu Corporation" runs automatically while avoiding obstacles when you enter a sketch of the site.

In addition, AI = artificial intelligence uses a camera mounted on the vehicle body to grasp the position of the pallet on which luggage is placed in detail, and automatically corrects the vehicle even if the pallet is misaligned.

The company expects to use it in the construction industry and the logistics industry, where there is a shortage of human resources who can operate forklifts, and is aiming for practical use by the summer.

Masahiro Indo, Director of the Robot and ICT Development Center of Shimizu Corporation, said, "Because it is an easy-to-use machine, we would like to expand the field of activity beyond the boundaries of the industry."

Toyota Industries, the largest manufacturer of forklift trucks, is also expanding its efforts to put it into practical use, such as by developing self-driving forklift trucks that use a technology called deep learning that AI itself learns.
