How much will you pay if you order new parts when repairing your old car?

Have you ever thought about how much you will pay the insurance company if your old car has an accident and asks for new, original parts?

Head of Car Accidents Department at Al Buhaira Insurance Company Suleiman Dhaher told Emirates Today that the insured bears a percentage in the repair of the car ranging from 5 to 30%, which is a part of the price of the original new spare parts if his insurance requires repair within the agency.

He explained, "The owner of an old car that is no longer under the warranty of repair within the agency and who requests the use of new original spare parts must request this in writing, and he must bear a percentage of up to 20% of the price of the required parts."

Pointing out that "this ratio is fair to both parties so that insurance companies do not bear the full loss."

Stressing, "This percentage that the insured pays is in addition to the deductible specified in the policy if he is the cause of the accident, and it is not considered a substitute for it."

He added, "Sometimes the insured waives the use of new, original parts and is satisfied with the used ones so that he does not bear a percentage of the price, and the unavailability of these parts occurs, so the insurance company is forced to cover the purchase of new ones without costing the insured anything, since he did not request the use of new original parts in the first place."

He stressed, "It is important for the insured to know their rights at this point specifically, as the deductible and depreciation rates (contribution to the price of spare parts) are specified in detail within the terms of the unified insurance policy.
