The Platform of People Affected by the Occupation 'Leyantitrabajos' has gathered this Sunday in front of the Congress of Deputies, in Madrid, to demand urgent legislative measures against the occupation.

In a statement, the organizers lament that they are victims of "legislative humiliation", but also of the "indifference" of the government and the coalition parties.

"His silence, his inaction and the denial of the suffering of the victims with hollow and distorting slogans, such as hoaxes and social alarm, condemn us to extreme agony with serious economic, material and above all psychological damage," reads the note.

The platform assures that it has been denouncing for months that

"the official data does not include the multiple extrajudicial solutions

, born under cover of the inefficiency of the judicial system, which would exponentially increase the real figures of the occupation problem."

He also talks about what they call "new forms of occupation", such as "

restlessness

", which they say "especially hits small owners who have to assume responsibility for the government's social shield".

In addition, the organizers

reject the Housing Law and the Anti-eviction Law of Catalonia

which, "far from fighting this scourge, facilitates and promotes the occupation without protecting the victims."

"This exclusion supposes a legislative humiliation to each and every one of those affected who join the very serious consequences that the occupation entails," they affirm.

Support

Among those attending the protest were the deputy mayor of Madrid,

Begoña Villacís,

who has accused the PSOE and United We Can of "not being" with the families that pay the mortgages, in relation to the cases of occupation in the region, and has ensured that the Government "can never be complicit" in these situations.

In this sense, Villacís explained that his party has presented "the most ambitious law" to combat the occupation in "defense of people who have paid a mortgage with great effort and who are also vulnerable", and that they "deserve" to have a "defense and someone to introduce them".

Specifically, Villacís has called on the Government of Spain that this law recognize the people affected, "who are not receiving aid as the law says"

as well as that private property be respected.

In addition, he has demanded that the official shift attend to people who want to recover their house since "on top of occupying their house, they have to pay for supplies, something that is a real shame."

In addition, he has demanded that a house be recovered through a speedy trial and ultimately,

"justice be done"

, because "there is no right for someone to kick the door, enter the house and stay with her".

"I have heard terrible stories.

I have had an elderly man in my office who went away for a week to take care of his sister and when he came back he had to witness how his entire library and his family's things were thrown out of the window, helpless without being able to do nothing," he lamented.

The deputy of the Vox Parliamentary Group, Cristina Esteban,

and several national and regional deputies of the formation have also attended the concentration

to show their support for the organizers.

In statements during the act, Esteban accused the Government of letting the squatters "roam freely" and of describing as a "social shield" what it means to "expropriate the homes of legitimate owners", for which he has asked to reform the penal code and the Law of Criminal Procedure.

The deputy has insisted that

measures must be taken

and has recalled that her formation has presented two bills to provide the State Security Forces and Bodies with legal tools

"to be able to remove the squatters in 24 hours."

For its part, the Platform has lamented that they are victims of "legislative humiliation", but also of the "indifference" of the Government and the coalition parties.
