After almost two weeks of inactivity (with the exception of a rejected proposal) during the carrier strike, the Government finally reached an agreement with the National Committee for Road Transport on a package of measures to reduce the impact of the high price of fuels in the sector.

The Executive was waiting for Brussels to announce its plans in the face of the increase in the cost of energy, but the pressure was beginning to be too high and it opted for a bonus of 20 cents on the price of fuel, in addition to a direct aid plan.

Spain thus joined Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Portugal, which had already applied direct discounts or discounts on excise taxes on fuels.

The figures and dates, however, vary: Berlin calculates that the liter of gasoline will have a reduction of 30 cents, while the Government of Boris Johnson limits the reduction to five pence, but will extend

it until March next year

.

Despite this, the times planned by Moncloa do not change, since the reduction will begin to be applied on April 1, as the Government wanted.

The State will assume three quarters of this reduction -15 cents- and the rest -five cents- is the minimum that the oil companies must contribute.

However, they have already announced higher discounts.

Throughout this crisis, the Government has been paying attention to the measures taken by the French Executive - its first proposal to the carriers and also the final one are similar to what was done by Paris - and the request to take a step forward to the oil

companies is an exception

.

In the interview with

Le Parisien

in which Prime Minister

Jean Castex

announced his reduction in fuels, at a cost of 2,000 million euros for the French coffers, he also asked companies "to make an effort".

This "additional gesture", he explained, could be the same five cents that Spain demands from these companies.

"How would the French understand that they pay two euros for a full tank of diesel while at the same time the oil companies continue to make huge profits?" Castex argued.

For the Spanish Government, the question was

merely rhetorical

: companies must make that effort.

And they have done it, although without ignoring the possibilities of loyalty that it entails.

In any case, Repsol launched its discount even before the Executive put the ball in its field.

It did, yes, after meeting with the Government:

10 cents discount

for carriers at its more than 3,300 service stations and through its Solred card, aimed at professionals.

And, by the way, the same discount for individuals who use their Waylet application.

Once the stake was at that amount, the logical thing was to see it or raise it;

lanterns were not worth putting on a poker face

.

Thus, little by little the sector was added.

The next was Cepsa, with a "universal and immediate" discount of

10 cents per liter

, five more than what the Government requested.

Also from April 1, also until June 30 and for those who belong to the program 'Porque Tú Vuelves'.

"All agents, public and private, must join forces to face the exceptional moment we are experiencing as a result of the complex international situation," recalled

Maarten Wetselaar

, CEO of the firm, when announcing the decision.

For its part, BP practically equals the government reduction and takes its reduction to 14 cents per liter for professionals and up to 12 cents for private customers.

In total,

up to 29 cents

, if the contribution made by the Executive is added.

The discount -direct and not cumulative- will vary depending on the size of the fleet and will require a Routex card.

In the case of individuals, it will be through the My BP card and it will be necessary to adhere to the 'Ahorro de Locos' promotion.
