The departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis announced this Thursday its entry as a founding member of the capital of a future cooperative of Ile-de-France VTC drivers who want to free themselves from the giants of the sector and their constraints.
The deliberation taken in committee "marks a major step towards the imminent creation of this cooperative, which will bring together 500 VTC drivers, for about a third from Seine-Saint-Denis", announced the department in a press release.
It will contribute "up to 25,000 euros (500 shares of 50 euros), the maximum amount authorized for an equity investment in such a structure", added the community.
The support of the department "is a guarantee of seriousness, of confidence", noted Jérôme Giusti, lawyer mandated to set up this structure, whose commercial launch is planned "for the fall of 2022".
Offer races to companies and communities
The idea is based on the creation of a digital networking platform, under the conditions determined by the shareholder drivers.
So as not to face only the giant Uber on its land, it will offer race reservations for companies or communities.
The cooperative model has already gained ground with bike couriers.
But so far, no project has resulted in a sustainable way in the field of VTC.
The approach aims to keep "bosses but who would not be subordinate to Uber and others", according to Brahim Ben Ali, at the initiative of this operation, also secretary general of the INV union, which brings together associations and unions of VTC through the France.
Weakened by the health crisis and regularly denouncing loss-making pricing, dozens of auto-entrepreneurs have ordered European courts to rule on their status, considering it as disguised employment.
In France, the Court of Cassation recognized in March 2020 the existence of a relationship of subordination between Uber and one of its former drivers, judging that his independent status was "fictitious".
