The United States will increase the supply of liquefied natural gas to the EU, under an agreement reached this Thursday,

and to be formalized tomorrow

, which aims to help reduce dependence on the supply of fossil fuels from Moscow, as announced by the president of the European Commission,

Ursula von der Leyen.

"Tomorrow, with

Biden

, we will present a new chapter of our energy partnership: additional liquefied natural gas from the United States to the European Union to replace the liquefied natural gas we have from Russia. An important step forward", detailed the president of the Community Executive to the press upon his arrival at the EU leaders' summit.

The president of the European Commission will meet this Friday with the American president.

In this framework

, this agreement will be announced at the summit of EU leaders

to which the US president has been invited after the G7 meeting.

At the end of last January, the United States and the European Union sealed an agreement to guarantee the energy supply to the community market in the face of the possibility of breaking with Russia in the midst of an escalation of tensions with Moscow.

Von der Leyen and Biden signed, at that time, a declaration committing to energy security and sustainability as well as the acceleration towards clean energy, reports Efe.

The President of the Community Executive has highlighted that the leaders of the EU, the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada and Japan have decided to strengthen their support for Ukraine, increase sanctions against Russia and break with Moscow's dependence on the supply of fossil fuels.
