The large electricity companies have calmly left their meeting with the President of the Government in the midst of the energy crisis.

Far from announcing new cuts or taxes on their benefits, as

United We Can insistently propose,

Pedro Sánchez has limited himself to asking them to "put their shoulders to the wheel" in the current energy situation and look for formulas to make electricity cheaper for their clients, according to what they tell EL WORLD knowledgeable sources of the meeting.

The leader of the Government and the vice president of Ecological Transition,

Teresa Ribera,

have not detailed the measures on which they are working for the Council of Ministers on March 29, but they have wanted to reassure the sector by offering a continuous dialogue to outline the new changes.

The businessmen attending the meeting have presented their diagnosis of the current crisis and have tried to demonstrate to the Government that there are no such thing as "extraordinary profits" due to the high price of gas that is constantly attributed to them.

His diagnosis is that the fault of the current crisis is external and linked to the high international price of gas.

Iberdrola, for example, points to the large hydrocarbon companies as the great beneficiaries and assures that the company is harmed by the high market price.

The same as Endesa, which through

José Bogas

has defended that its energy is sold at a price much lower than the market price.

"Electric companies have shown the president of the government that they do not have benefits that have fallen from the sky. This is something that the oil and gas companies have not been able to demonstrate, since they do have extraordinary benefits," explain sources in the sector.

The chairman of Iberdrola,

Ignacio Galán,

He has insisted at the meeting that heavy industry suffering from current prices needs to be more proactive in its electricity contracting to reduce its huge exposure to wholesale market volatility.

One of those attending the meeting highlights the difference in the tone that electrical managers have found today and that of last September, when the Government approved an 'express' cut of

2,400 million euros

that it later had to correct.

"I have seen Sánchez very constructive. It was a meeting to listen to us because he needs us to promote the energy transformation and promote renewables," he explains.

The Government has not detailed any of its measures, although the electricity companies speculate that next week the Council of Ministers will approve a cut in the regulated remuneration charged by renewable energies -guaranteeing their profitability but avoiding the current overpayment-, the extension of low taxes and the limitation to which gas combined cycles can offer their electricity.

The latter would be done outside the market, although its final execution will depend on what the European leaders agree on at the summit this Thursday.

For her part,

Teresa Ribera

has cleared the possibility of approving a tax on the benefit of electricity companies as required by her government partner,

United We Can

.

Asked about the possibility of approving a new tax on the benefit of electricity companies as demanded by Vice President

Yolanda Díaz,

Ribera said that the taxation of these companies is regulated through the Corporation Tax.

"We have not talked about taxes on electricity companies", she has settled.

"It has been a constructive dialogue in which the President of the Government has asked companies for a greater commitment to consumers and the activation of the transformation of the energy sector with the promotion of renewables and efficiency", explained the vice president 'green ' at the end of the meeting.
