Japan Post has announced that it will set a special surcharge for international parcels using airmail, as the spread of the new coronavirus has reduced airmail operations worldwide and increased transportation costs.

According to the announcement, Japan Post will set a special additional charge for international parcels of airmail that can send packages up to 30 kg from June 1st for the time being.

The target areas are the United States, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, etc., 800 yen per kilometer for the United States, and an additional 500 yen per kilometer for Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, etc.

In addition, the special additional charge that was added to EMS = Express Mail Service to the United States and Europe from June last year will be extended until the end of May.

Regarding the reason for introducing the additional charge, Japan Post says that the spread of the new coronavirus has been prolonged, the number of air flights worldwide has decreased, and the transportation cost has increased.

In the future, if transportation is disrupted due to the situation in Ukraine, it is possible that additional charges will be incurred.
