The heat pump, called heat pump, has many followers.

And like any device, it involves a certain rigor of use and maintenance.

We tell you how to optimize its operation.

A package of benefits

A heat pump is a bit like a refrigerator whose process has been reversed.

Moreover, the same coolant is used in both cases.

But instead of rejecting the heat produced outside to keep your food cool, the heat pump captures the degrees from the ambient environment to restore them inside the home.

First advantage: this system is economical.

By choosing a latest generation pump, you can divide your energy bill by three or four.

In addition, most models are now reversible, which allows you to switch from heating to air conditioning depending on the season.

Finally, the heat pump is presented as a virtuous device, since it uses renewable energies such as air, water or earth and emits little CO2.

We don't skimp on quality

In order to benefit from financial assistance for installation, but also to ensure the performance of your equipment, it is necessary to call on a qualified professional RGE (recognized guarantor of the environment).

You must also ensure the quality of the heat pump you buy, which is not always easy given the wide range of products on this booming market.

Beyond the choice of the system (air-air, air-water, ground-water or ground-ground) and the price, it is necessary to take into account the sound volume of the machine (42 dB equivalent to the noise of a fan, while 65 dB corresponds to that of a washing machine).

Pay particular attention to the coefficient of performance (SCOP) and the cooling efficiency (EER) of the heat pump.

The higher these indices, the better the return, knowing that it is not recommended to opt for coefficients below 3.

Necessary and mandatory maintenance!

Even properly installed, a heat pump can see its efficiency decrease if you are not careful.

For an air source heat pump to work properly, the air must be able to circulate freely around the outdoor unit.

It is therefore up to you to ensure that any leaves, branches and other obstacles do not interfere with this process.

Likewise, it is important to periodically dust and clean the air vents with soapy water.

If you want your heat pump to remain efficient and last a long time (fifteen years on average), this routine maintenance is not enough.

This device needs periodic maintenance by a specialist.

While it was previously simply recommended to have your heat pump checked every two years, the council has also become an obligation, under a decree published in

the Official Journal

of July 29, 2020. equipment already installed with a power between 4 kW and 70 kW will indeed have to be serviced by a professional by July 1, 2022. Sealing, adjustments, cleaning but also advice on proper use are on the program of this regulatory maintenance operation.

Financing your CAP

Buying a heat pump represents a large financial investment, estimated between 5,000 and 20,000 euros.

Several aids allow you to reduce the bill.

Thanks to the premium for the conversion of oil, gas and coal boilers, you can benefit from an envelope reaching from 2,500 to 4,000 euros, through the system of energy saving certificates (EEC) if you opt for an air-water or water-water heat pump or a hybrid heat pump.

This boost can be combined with the MaPrimeRénov' scheme, subject to income (42,848 euros of reference tax income for a couple).

Between 2,000 and 4,000 euros are planned here for an air-water heat pump, and between 4,000 and 10,000 euros for a geothermal model.

Finally, the most modest households with a comprehensive renovation project can count on the Habiter mieux program of the National Housing Agency.
