• Interviews Daniel Fuentes: "The war is going to make us poorer, we have to accept it"

The inflationary crisis that Spain was already suffering and that has been aggravated by the consequences of the invasion of Ukraine, is

impoverishing the Spanish population

.

This was already warned by economists such as the former adviser to Moncloa, Daniel Fuentes, and this was confirmed by the governor of the Bank of Spain, Pablo Hernández de Cos, on Tuesday.

"On the workers' side,

there is no doubt that they are losing purchasing power

," said Hernández de Cos at a working breakfast with the business sector organized by Hill & Knowlton in which he has again requested an

income pact

.

He already did it before the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, asked for it, and this Tuesday he has insisted on it on several occasions.

"It

is crucial to avoid triggering a spiral of price

and cost increases that would only aggravate the already harmful effects of the current disturbance. Avoiding this spiral can be achieved through an income pact between companies and workers", has pointed out.

This income pact, he continued, will undoubtedly affect the workers.

In fact, as he has pointed out, he is already doing it.

But Hernández de Cos has stressed that the

cost must be shared between the worker and the company

.

"This income pact must suppose a distribution, between companies and workers, of the decrease in income of the national economy compared to the rest of the world that the recent cost increases imply. I insist: it is about distributing costs. All the agents involved have of assuming a loss. Neither workers will be able to maintain their purchasing power in the short term,

nor will companies be able to maintain their margins
