In response to rising prices of various raw materials such as cocoa beans and cooking oil, manufacturers are moving to raise the prices of confectionery such as chocolate and potato chips.

Of these, the major confectionery maker Meiji announced on the 10th that it will raise the price of 136 items including chocolate, gummies, gum, etc. from the shipment in May.

The prices of raw materials such as cacao beans and sugar are rising due to unseasonable local weather and rising demand, and distribution costs are still high, so the shipping price will be raised by about 3% to 11%. increase.

This is the first chocolate price increase in about seven years since July 2015.

Koike-ya, a confectionery maker, will also increase the price of 12 products such as stick-shaped confectionery by reducing the content by about 6% to 9% while keeping the price unchanged from June.

This is because the price of palm oil, which is the raw material, is rising due to rising global demand.

In addition, Calbee has been increasing the prices of 17 products such as its mainstay potato chips from the end of January, and manufacturers expect that the retail price will increase by about 7% to 10%.

The movement to raise prices extends to familiar sweets.
