Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank: 700,000 customers conduct their transactions digitally

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank announced that it will continue to develop its digital banking system, to consolidate its position at the forefront of digital innovations in the banking sector, in conjunction with the adoption of more customers on digital services.

The bank stated in a statement that in 2021 it witnessed an increase of 11% in the number of customers who relied on digital services available on the bank’s platforms, while there are currently more than 700,000 customers conducting their transactions digitally, representing 75% of the customers who are active daily or weekly. Abu Dhabi Islamic pointed out that over the past two years, it has introduced innovative features and services that provide easy and accessible banking services to customers.

He said that about 40% of new customers currently open their accounts digitally through the feature of the facial recognition system, and about 30% of customers obtain instant and digital personal financing through the bank's application.

According to the bank, digital remittances recorded 98%, while the process of updating customer profiles digitally recorded 79%.

In turn, cash withdrawals and check deposits within branches decreased, with more than 98% of withdrawals conducted digitally, which represents an increasing dependence on digital payment services.


Sameh Awadallah, Acting Global Head of Retail Banking Sector at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, affirmed the bank's continuous efforts to shift towards digitization.

He said, “We have made remarkable achievements in this field.

We currently have a strong digital infrastructure, which we can take advantage of to enhance the capabilities of customers.”


WhatsApp chats

It is noteworthy that Abu Dhabi Islamic launched, last August, the first banking conversation service to serve customers through the “WhatsApp” application to provide an immediate response to customers’ general inquiries regarding accounts and balances, while there are currently 150,000 customers who have an instant chat account with the bank.

The bank also introduced digital service kiosks that bore the name “smart teller”, which is able to provide services throughout the week, equivalent to what is provided by a small branch, allowing customers to access a wide range of banking services and products that are not usually available through ATMs. Traditional, such as instant access to a personal bank card, and updating account details.


"Turbo" and "My Money"

The bank also launched the "Turbo" platform, which provides a comprehensive digital system for the sale, purchase, financing and insurance of cars.

The platform brings together many partners of the auto trade sector, allowing customers to complete their transactions through one platform.

Abu Dhabi Islamic pointed out its launch of the "My Money" initiative, which provides young people with banking services and products, enabling them to conduct complete banking transactions that comply with their digital preferences and that do not include paper procedures, or the need to visit the bank's branches.


"Al Ghaf" program

It also launched the paperless "Ghaf" program, an initiative that aims to eliminate the use of paper in branches through digital banking solutions.

The first phase of the program is scheduled to be concluded by the end of 2022, and this phase included reducing the level of consumption of more than two million notes across the bank’s branches by the end of 2021.
