The United States is preparing to launch a digital dollar

US President Joe Biden will launch Wednesday a digital dollar project as part of a wide-ranging effort to impose controls on the cryptocurrency sector, the White House announced Wednesday.

And the US presidency statement said that Biden will sign a decree on Wednesday asking his administration "to attach the utmost importance to research and development in order to reach a digital currency for the central bank" in the United States, whose currency dominates the financial sector in the world.

A senior White House official stressed, asking not to be named, "We must be careful in our analysis because the impact of adopting a digital dollar would be very profound in countries whose currency is the world's main reserve currency."

But he stressed that the more advanced digital currency adoption projects in some other countries or monetary areas do not threaten the dominance of the dollar, which guarantees a privileged position for the United States in the global financial sector.

The White House said that more than 100 countries are studying the possibility of launching a digital currency.

The global appetite for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and the increasing use of digital payments have sparked interest in adopting an official digital currency while the world's major central banks are considering this possibility.
