Unitel, the only PC communication service in Korea, will mark the end of its 26-year history at the end of June.

According to the IT industry today (6th), Unitel announced in a recently posted notice that it will end its service on June 30th.

The company started in 1996 and changed to a web portal site.

Unitel explained that paid affiliate services such as webtoons, movies, text messages, faxes, and mail alerts will be terminated on the 31st prior to the end of the entire service, and the March fee will be charged on the 1st of the following month.

Movie payment ends on the 24th of this month.

Unitel emphasized, "In the meantime, we will do our best to provide a sufficient backup period for customer data."

Unitel started PC communication service as a business division of Samsung SDS in 1996 and became popular when it was introduced as a PC communication chat room where male and female protagonists talk in the 1997 movie 'Connection' starring Han Seok-kyu and Jeon Do-yeon, which was released in 1997. .

After that, it remained as a PC communication service company except for the business division that was re-acquired by Samsung SDS. After it was acquired by Dow Technology, the name was changed to Unitel Networks, and in 2008, it was absorbed by Dow Technology.

In the early days of PC communication, there were Chollian, Hitel, Cornet, Nownuri, and Net's Go, but one or two disappeared in the aftermath of the Internet penetration, and only Unitel remained after June 2015.

Unitel switched to a portal site and offered a paid service as its main product, but it was reported that it did not produce great results due to competition from large portals.
