Last year, the results of the "Taste Ranking", which examines the taste of rice produced, were announced, and 42 brands nationwide received the highest "Special A" rating.

Due to unseasonable weather from summer to autumn, "Special A" fell below 50 brands for the first time in four years.

The rice taste ranking is evaluated on a five-point scale by the Japan Grain Inspection Association, which evaluates the quality and safety of agricultural products, by examining the taste and aroma of the produced rice every year.

Last year, the evaluation of 152 brands of rice produced nationwide was announced on the 2nd, and 42 brands, which is about a quarter of the total, were evaluated as the highest "Special A".

Compared to the previous year, the number of "Special A" decreased by 11 and fell below 50 for the first time in 4 years.

From last summer to autumn, it seems that the long rains and lack of sunshine from Fukushima to the Kanto region had an effect.

Of these, "Nanatsuboshi" in Hokkaido and "Sagabiyori" in Saga Prefecture are "Special A" for the 12th consecutive year.

In addition, 13 brands have been promoted to "Special A" from "A", which was one lower than the previous evaluation, such as "Kinumusume" in the north of Wakayama Prefecture was selected as "Special A" for the first time in Wakayama Prefecture.

On the other hand, 22 brands such as "Koshihikari" in Hamadori, Fukushima Prefecture, which had been "Special A" for 5 consecutive years, have changed from "Special A" to "A".
