The messages the West is sending to the aggressor Putin are strong.

Whether sanctions or rearmament: The West is not only showing Putin, but also China very clearly, that there are borders and that aggressive wars are part of them.

It's not just politicians who are sending out these messages of strength; business is flanking them: the successive withdrawal of large corporations from Russia is a clear sign of unity.

In the past, there have been too many instances where Western companies have helped circumvent and undermine Western sanctions.

It is to be hoped that this will be a thing of the past.

Hopefully the companies have realized that there is more at stake in the Ukraine war.

Even tricky bankers, who have always found a way around the sanctions, should rein themselves in this time.

But if Putin really woke up the West geopolitically with his war of aggression, then that also means that this geopolitics must be designed for the long term.

It is to be hoped that these days of horror will pass.

It is to be hoped that one day Russia can be a partner again.

And it is hoped that companies will then be ready to return to Russia.
