Zhao Zhihai, deputy to the National People's Congress and director of the Academic Committee of the Zhangjiakou Academy of Agricultural Sciences, is known as the "father of hybrid millet". He cultivated a series of "Zhangzagu" varieties, which increased the yield of millet per mu in arid and semi-arid areas of northern China from 200-300 kg. To 400-600 kilograms, it has created a world high yield record of 811.9 kilograms per mu.
The National Two Sessions will be held in 2022, and Zhao Zhihai will walk into the National Two Sessions with proposals on food security.

Millet is both grain and grass, and millet is high-quality forage. In areas along the Great Wall with rainfall below 400 mm, the development of hybrid millet industry and the promotion of dry farming and water-saving agricultural technology can not only solve the problems of increasing local grain production and farmers’ income, but also solve Insufficient supply of forage.

Grain grass used to be a high-quality forage for mules and horses, but now it is more suitable for high-quality forage for cattle and sheep after processing.
After feeding cattle and sheep with grain and grass, the output and meat quality are significantly improved, especially the immunity is enhanced, so that the use of barren land can produce high-quality meat, eggs and milk.
A large amount of millet is directly consumed and transformed by livestock such as cattle and sheep.
That is to say, it is equivalent to storing grain produced in arid areas in livestock, that is, storing grain in livestock.
[Explanation] In the past 20 years, Zhao Zhihai has promoted new varieties of dryland hybrid millet and new technologies, scientifically utilized natural precipitation, and significantly increased millet yield while saving groundwater resources, especially in the development of Gobi desert, improvement of saline-alkali land, transformation of terraced fields and other cultivated land Strong scientific and technological support has been provided in capacity building.

[Explanation] Zhao Zhihai said that millet is our national seed industry, and China is the main producing area, and millet is less affected by imports.
"Zhangzagu" is an excellent variety with independent intellectual property rights cultivated by us, which can guarantee national food security from the source.
Next, they will further increase the research and development of new millet varieties, increase production, and develop "Zhangzagu" high-quality forage feed.
