The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has decided whether or not to introduce the "radio wave auction," which allocates radio waves used in mobile phones to businesses by bidding, by the summer.

"Radio auction" is a system that allocates mobile phone frequencies to businesses that offer high prices in competitive bidding. It is implemented overseas such as the United States and the United Kingdom, but it has not been introduced in Japan.

A meeting of experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is considering the pros and cons of introducing an auction system because the need for frequency use is increasing toward the spread of high-speed, large-capacity communication standard 5G in Japan. I showed a summary plan.

In this, we showed how the auction system is dealing with the disadvantages that the winning bid price may rise and the communication charge may increase overseas.

On the other hand, the auction system has merits such as high transparency, increased management freedom after it makes a successful bid, and expectation of technological innovation.

In the future, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will start full-scale discussions, such as listening to opinions from businesses, and will decide whether or not to introduce it by the summer.
